DALLAS, TX – December 21, 2012 – YFS Magazine recently debuted its free business ebook, 50 Ways to Plan for Small Business Success, which is poised to become the new go-to business success guide for seed, early stage startup and growth companies looking to unlock the hidden benefits of planning for business success.

“There are millions of small businesses in the United States, but what is it that makes some businesses so successful?” said Erica Nicole, Founder and CEO, YFS Magazine. “To answer this question, I have curated a collection of best practices – in collaboration with seventeen leading entrepreneurs across multiple industries – to reveal proven success strategies and secrets.”

YFS Magazine’s new ebook 50 Ways to Plan for Small Business Success says it is one thing to talk about success and truly another to plan for it; execute goals, processes and steps to achieve it.

In today’s dynamic small business environment three of the 50 ways to plan for small business success include:

1. Manage your cash flow. “Your bottom line is extremely important, and overspending could make the difference in whether or not you are able to grow and be profitable. Review your budget quarterly, at a minimum, and look for ways to cut your costs and operate more efficiently without cannibalizing the customer experience…,” according to Bill Clark, President and Founder, MicroVenture Marketplace.

2. Humanize your social media marketing efforts. “Let some of your most influential company leaders interact on your social media networks. Everyone in your company has a personal brand and a story to tell. Remember, your customers do not buy what you do – they buy why you do it. Social media is the perfect platform to show your customers the face behind the brand they love,” suggests Amy Jo Martin, New York Times Best-Selling Author and CEO and Founder, Digital Royalty.

3. Shut up and listen to your customers. “A Fortune 100-sized company, one of our larger clients, recently came to us for a solution that we thought already existed. When we discovered that it did not exist, we asked, “Why not just create it ourselves?” If a larger company is looking for a specific solution, imagine how many other companies might be as well,” said Kenny Nguyen, CEO and Founder, Big Fish Presentations.

These tips, along with 47 others, from well-respected and successful entrepreneurs, provide baseline knowledge and inspiration that small business owners need to create unique and individual success plans.

In 50 Ways to Plan for Small Business Success, Erica Nicole reveals the key principles and tactics used by successful small business leaders to provide a behind-the-scenes look into the new world of business success. By sharing real-world advice from those who have built successful small businesses, Erica Nicole curates their collective wisdom into one compelling and comprehensive blueprint.

50 Ways to Plan for Small Business Success is available online at www.yfsentrepreneur.com/ebooks/ebook-001.html.

The Small Business Company (TSBC) wins the 2012 AUT Excellence in Business Support award for Management Services in the $5M or less turnover category.

NEW ZEALAND – November 9, 2012 – The Small Business Company (TSBC) – providers of expert online content – has had its expertize in improving the dialogue for small businesses recognized with a win in the 2012 AUT Excellence in Business Support Awards.

The win took place at a ceremony hosted by the Auckland University of Technology (AUT) this week and comes at a pivotal moment for the New Zealand business. The company currently works with Bank of America in the US to provide interactive online educational resources for American startups and budding entrepreneurs.

The work comes on the back of a long track record of helping ‘big business’ all over the world communicate and support their small business clients, and nurture the next generation of innovative startups.

This record includes expert online content provided to global powerhouses such as Microsoft and HSBC, and a long and successful partnership with New Zealand’s Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (formerly the Ministry of Economic Development).

TSBC CEO, Glen Senior

This relationship sees TSBC manage and deliver content for Business.govt.nz – the official bridge between government and small businesses in New Zealand – for which the Ministry also won an award at the same ceremony.

TSBC founder and CEO Glen Senior says despite his company’s history of success supporting other small businesses, the awards for its work now couldn’t come at a better time.

“The urgency for American big business and government to improve their dialogue with, and support of, SMBs and startup entrepreneurs sometimes gets lost in the noise. But that urgency has never been greater than now, in the ‘new normal’ of the post-Global Financial Crisis world,” he says.

“My ambition is for this award to highlight not just the value of our expertize, but also the value of providing support resources to small businesses and entrepreneurs that speak their language. If you can genuinely help people start their own businesses by providing practical interactive lessons that recognize their pain points, you can not only change their world but the economic reality for all of us.”

“And that’s perhaps truer for the United States, right now, than it is for any other country,” said Senior.

About The Small Business Company (TSBC)

The Small Business Company, otherwise known as TSBC, is a small-business strategy, content and management development agency. TSBC was founded by serial entrepreneur and small business advocate Glen Senior in 1998. The company started out delivering best practice workshops to small businesses and startup entrepreneurs across New Zealand, but quickly recognized the opportunity and advantages of providing online content which can be consumed more flexibly by time-crunched business leaders.

Black Enterprise Entrepreneurs Conference Hosted by Nationwide Insurance Culminates with BE100s Anniversary Celebration and Awards Dinner on Friday, May 25, in Chicago

(Chicago, IL) May 23, 2012 – BLACK ENTERPRISE (BE) will mark 40 years of listing America’s largest black companies on Friday, May 25, 2012 as the Black Enterprise Entrepreneurs Conference + Expo hosted by Nationwide culminates with the BE100s Anniversary Celebration and Awards Dinner at the Chicago Hilton.

The evening, presented by Dell, a worldwide provider of innovative technology and business solutions, is expected to draw more than 1,000 African American executives, businesses owners and professionals to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the first publication of the magazine’s flagship roster, the BE100s, which is widely lauded as the most authoritative analysis and ranking of the nation’s top grossing black-owned companies.

When BE first compiled its top 100 in 1973, combined sales for the 100 component companies totaled $473 million. Today, the top 100 African American industrial/service companies—the core of the BE 100s report—collectively grossed more than $18.7 billion. The list has become the cornerstone of Black Enterprise magazine’s June issue.

“While a monumental undertaking, it’s truly is a labor of love for us to report the state of African American business success in the US, highlighting the achievements of intrepid entrepreneurs at the helms of top-flight organizations while informing our audience exactly how these BE 100s CEOs and their teams build and maintain sustainable enterprises,” says BLACK ENTERPRISE President & CEO Earl “Butch” Graves Jr.

“Year after year, while reporting on the moves of the best of the best, we are constantly surprised and awed by their boundless ingenuity. They ideate and innovate and then execute and excel, and we’re proud to celebrate this achievement.”

The BE100s Anniversary Celebration and Awards Dinner presented by Dell commences at 8:00 p.m. in the International Ballroom of the Chicago Hilton and can be viewed via live stream at www.blackenterprise.com/ec. “Dell’s commitment to the growth of small businesses goes well beyond the products and solutions they sell. For that reason, we welcome their enthusiastic participation in honoring our BE100s Companies for innovation and bold moves by African Americans in business,” says Derek T. Dingle, SVP, Editor-in-Chief, Black Enterprise magazine.

We are also most grateful to host Nationwide Insurance, our Entrepreneurs Conference + Expo title sponsor for the second consecutive year, for their ongoing commitment to promoting minority business and for making this milestone occasion a reality.”

Daily registration for the Black Enterprise Entrepreneurs Conference + Expo is available on-site at the Chicago Hilton on South Michigan Avenue, Chicago, IL, and by calling 312-294-6610. The June 2012 issue of BLACK ENTERPRISE—with complete BE 100s rankings, full eligibility criteria, and company of the year overviews—hits newsstands on June 5, 2012.

Two young entrepreneurs partner to provide a series of four small business boot camps for Los Angeles area small business owners and entrepreneurs who are looking to work full-time for themselves.
Los Angeles, CA – May 22, 2012 – Gen Y business owners Nailah Blades and Donna Queza know a thing or two about being young, ambitious and having the entrepreneurial spirit. Like many of their twenty-something counterparts, they’ve recently started their own businesses.

According to a 2011 study by JWT Intelligence, more than 50 percent of millennials in the U.S. said that they’d start their own businesses if they lost their jobs or had trouble finding a position – that’s up from 25 percent just two years prior. With jobs becoming increasingly difficult to find, this resourceful group of entrepreneurs is breaking new ground.

“Donna and I have had the opportunity to meet and work with a number of twenty-somethings who have great ideas and big dreams,” says Blades, the business and life coach who runs Polka Dot Coaching. “We’ve each launched businesses in the last year and know how difficult it can be to focus your attention on your craft while simultaneously planning and marketing your brand. That’s where we come in,” Queza, owner of Donna Queza – Marketing Optimist, adds.

Combining their marketing and coaching experience Queza and Blades have partnered to present The Launch Sequence – a series of four small business boot camps for Los Angeles area small business owners and entrepreneurs who are looking to work full-time for themselves. Each two-hour small group session facilitates brainstorming with peers, while providing time for personal attention from a business coach and marketing consultant. By the end of the series, attendees will have a clear direction for their businesses, as well as a tactical marketing plan and calendar for implementation. The Launch Sequence starts June 12 in Long Beach, Calif.

“We really wanted to facilitate something small and in-person so that people can get the most out of the experience,” says Blades. “There are a lot of online courses that are great, but sometimes you just need that extra nudge that only a supportive group environment can provide.”

###

About The Launch Sequence

The Launch Sequence is a series of 4 powerful small business workshops led by Donna Queza and Nailah Blades. The Launch Sequence is designed to help creative entrepreneurs launch their business to new heights. The Launch Sequence combines traditional marketing and strategic planning techniques with coaching principles to help you discover what really matters to you, how that translates into a direction for your brand and how to ultimately maximize the potential of your small business.
