There’s nothing worse than being stuck! In traffic, on an idea, in a tight space and in business.

It’s easy to get caught up in the mundane — the daily routine of running a successful small business. When this happens it’s also highly likely that entrepreneurs find themselves trying to relocate their passion and panicking to find the nearest exit.

Once you’ve developed traction in business, become profitable and accomplished milestones you may wonder — what’s next?

If you’ve ever been stuck in a business rut, here’s how to “wake up,” shake yourself out of it and move forward successfully.

1. Start with a blank canvas.

There is something oddly refreshing about viewing your business as a “blank canvas;” getting back to basics. It is a courageous step in business because it will force you to evaluate and observe with a fresh perspective. This often means, being bold enough to immediately cutback on what doesn’t work, increase what does and try something completely new.

2. Go back to college, figuratively.

Why not turn your company into a college class project? Remember that business professor that adored you — it’s time to make good on all of that schmoozing. If you need a fresh injection of inspiration and ideas, visit a local college, university or your alma mater and offer up your company as a “real-life” in class experiment.

Not only will students get hands on experience in the classroom, which improves their resume, the professor will be applauded for it by peers and students alike. It’s a win-win scenario for your business and could expose you to ideas and opportunities that never even crossed your mind.
