Since the widespread success of online fashion companies like Gilt Groupe, fashion has started to embrace technology and foster a new community of startups seeking to disrupt and claim their stake in the $20 billion boutique shopping industry. The founders behind North Carolina based clothing retailer Vestique decided to become one of them.

In 2010, Caroline King and Morgan Lashley were two friends traveling similar paths — working in Corporate America by day and chasing their dreams by night. Fast forward a couple of years and both King and Lashley are the fashionably budget conscious entrepreneurs behind Vestique, an online and brick-and-mortar clothing retailer for trendy young women who love fashion and a good bargain.

“Caroline and I both loved to shop at boutiques, but we were fresh out of college and on strict budgets,” said Morgan. “Frequently, we would browse the web for the best deals on items we’d seen in local boutiques and realized that an online boutique aimed at keeping prices low, was an idea we could really get behind.”

On the heels of a second store launch in their neighboring city, Charlotte, NC, these two budget savvy and fashion forward entrepreneurs don’t plan on slowing down. Both King and Lashley have plans to open additional retail locations and continue to grow their online store presence nationally.

Learn how the North Carolina duo launched their online fashion startup and why you should never give up.

How We Got Started:

Vestique began as a pipe dream. Caroline and I both loved to shop at boutiques, but we were fresh out of college and on strict budgets. Frequently, we would browse the web for the best deals on items we’d seen in local boutiques and realized that an online boutique aimed at keeping prices low, was an idea we could really get behind.
