5. Be Social
Let’s be honest. Have you ever heard of an expo where there wasn’t an element of “socializing over a few beers?” It’s inevitable. And if the event is held at a resort like ours was ( at the Gaylord Palms Resort in Orlando), try to book accommodations there, as opposed to a neighboring hotel.
Even if it’s a bit more expensive, think of it as an investment in your company’s future. When everyone goes to the hotel restaurant or bar for drinks, you’ll be glad you stayed. In social settings, people will let their guard down, so don’t miss out on these types of opportunities to network.
6. Close the loop.
Whew! The event is over. You’re on information overload and excited about the possibilities. But let’s make sure your preparation and hard work wasn’t for naught.
When you get back to real life, make sure you send emails to important contacts. Hopefully you will have left an impression on them, and they will instantly know who you are. To be safe, throw in a tidbit of information you discussed during your conversation. This will help them place your name amongst the hundreds of other contacts they may have met.
7. Have fun!
This is likely the most important thing to remember — have fun! Sure it’s a business event, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t enjoy yourself. Networking for days can be exhausting. Try to get to the location a day early, explore the town, and have some fun in the process! We certainly did!
