Young public relations entrepreneurs and professionals looking to make it big in the world of fashion PR have an inside advocate rooting for their success.  Crosby Noricks, the founder of PR Couture, set out a few years ago to elevate the fashion PR profession, dispel myths and deliver an uncensored behind the scenes look at a glamorous world that very few get to see.

In 2006, while pursuing her masters at San Diego State, Crosby transformed her academic thesis into an unexpected entrepreneurial journey.  The up-and-coming entrepreneur created PR Couture to fill what she saw as an immense gap in the digital space for a community where fashion PR was celebrated and examined through an authentic and creative lens.

Coined as the “fashion publicist’s most powerful accessory (DiscoverSD.com),” PR Couture swiftly caught the attention of industry insiders and brands as it explored the ever-evolving role of public relations, marketing and social media in the fashion industry.

Learn how she turned a “weekend whim” into a highly sought-after digital community for the fashion PR obsessed and why you should just give “it” your best shot.

Company: PR Couture
Founder, Age: Crosby Noricks, 32
Location: San Diego, CA
Industry: Advertising and Marketing (Public Relations)
Startup Year: 2006
Startup Costs: $300

How I Got Started:

For two years I managed the PR and marketing department for a fashion jewelry company. I worked closely with all the major celebrity weeklies and monthly glossies and had great success with editorial placement. At the same time, I was in graduate school pursuing a Communications degree and ended up doing my thesis on fashion PR.

I created PR Couture because I was really enjoying my job and had also found hardly anything online about the fashion PR while completing school research. At the time there was a lack of credible, honest, and engaging online discussion on fashion public relations.

I spent one weekend getting everything set up. I launched using my basic web skills and had a friend who is an illustrator by trade, design the logo. From there, I set up some Google Alerts, started writing … and PR Couture made its debut.

Hi Michael – I was lucky enough to start writing about fashion PR before many others, and I also naturally write about it a lot, so ranking for those terms happened pretty organically. I also always write with keywords and SEO in mind! Right now I am exploring a SEO-specific strategy for the book as well as looking at additional keywords to rank for – mostly based in searches and research I have done to identify related terms.
